Historic

The Minas Gerais Foundation for Education and Culture (FUMEC), a non-profit institution, was founded in 1965 by professors from UFMG, who wanted to found an educational institution oriented to the needs of society.

Today as a University, it offers undergraduate, higher technology, lato sensu graduate (specialization), stricto sensu graduate (master’s, doctorate and post-doctorate) and extension courses. In addition to face-to-face courses, FUMEC Virtual offers options in the Distance Education (EaD) modality.

Among the objectives of the University are the provision of services to the population and the dissemination of cultural creations, scientific and technological research. Therefore, FUMEC offers free programs for the community, such as psychological and legal assistance and grants scholarships to low-income students, via PROUNI and internal scholarships every six months.

FUMEC University offers undergraduate, higher technology, lato sensu graduate (specialization), stricto sensu graduate (master’s, doctorate and post-doctorate) and extension courses. In addition to face-to-face courses, FUMEC Virtual offers options in the Distance Education (EaD) modality. Students are also provided with the opportunity for international exchange and double degrees, based on agreements signed with other institutions, through the International Relations sector.

With about 6700 (six thousand seven hundred) students, FUMEC University is aware of its social responsibility and, without losing sight of humanistic and citizen education, maintains its commitment to quality higher education, as a justification for its operation and existence.

The Doctorate and Master’s Program in Administration (PDMA) at FUMEC University consists of a program formed by the Academic Master’s Degree in Administration, created in 2006 with the recommendation of CAPES, and the Doctorate in Administration, which was authorized and recommended in 2009.

The program has been operating for about 19 years and has already trained 484 graduates, who work in public and private organizations, teaching and research institutions in the national territory and abroad, with relevant impact.

Legal Acts of Authorization:

Master’s Degree in Administration – Recommended and authorized by CAPES in 2006, according to Official Letter No. 509-04/2006/CTC/CAPES;

Doctorate in Administration – Recommended and authorized by CAPES in 2009, according to Official Letter No. 052- 10/2009CTC/CAAII/CGAA/DAV/CAPES.

The context of the PDMA involves a history of training Professors (M/D) from public and private institutions inside and outside the State of Minas Gerais, including, for example, professors from the Federal University of Amazonas, Maranhão and Espírito Santo, Executives (such as the President of Banco FIAT, Managers of CEMIG), Technology and Innovation Entrepreneurs and the Public Sector (including the Secretariat of Planning MG,  TRT-MG, Public Defender’s Office MG, FAPEMIG, Military Police MG) among others.

As described, there is adherence, clarity and coherence of the area(s) of concentration and line(s) of research, including recent changes, with the objectives, modality and context of action of the program.

The PDMA is organized into two levels:

I – Master;

II – Doctorate.

The PDMA Structure is composed of four nuclei, namely: Basic, Research Training, Training and Deepening and Support.

  1. Basic Core: composed of mandatory disciplines indispensable to the formation of a Master or Doctor in Administration. Considering that the course receives graduates from various undergraduate courses, it is necessary to establish basic training content for a master in management;
  2. Research Stream: includes disciplines that present research training content and research projects. The model adopted in the research may assume a phenomenological or positivist nature and, therefore, all teachers will have qualitative and quantitative skills to support students with regard to the adequacy of methodologies to the nature of the problem and the object of study. This set of disciplines focuses on methodologies that will not only support the dissertation/thesis, but will also support results and concepts;

III.       Deepening in Content: composed of deepening disciplines in the Program’s lines of research. The contents contribute to the training of the master’s student in the themes of his research;

  1. Support Disciplines: consisting of disciplines whose cutting-edge contents can expand or focus on subjects of interest in the training of master’s students. Generally, the disciplines that make up this nucleus have a shorter duration, addressing emerging themes in Administrative Sciences.

The disciplines are offered every academic two months and are grouped according to the lines of research and level of the course (Master’s or Doctorate).

The curricular structure covers in the Basic Core has a general basic discipline – Theory of Organizations and two more, each focusing on one of the two lines of research (Strategic Management and Innovation, Technology and Marketing), which converge to the area of concentration.

In the research training center, it has five disciplines, with three aimed at research development: Methodology, Research in Administration and Project Seminar, in which the student evolves in his research continuously, supported by quantitative and qualitative methods.

In the Deepening Section, it has optional subjects so that the student can focus on the themes of his research and line. Here is the description:
