Mestrado Profissional em Processos Construtivos

Program History and Context

The conceptual framework for the Master’s Program in Construction Processes at FUMEC University emerged following the institution’s official accreditation as a University in 2004.

At that time, driven by the goal of institutional excellence and the growing national demand for highly qualified professionals, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (FEA-FUMEC) invested in hiring specialized faculty members. This group was tasked with designing a stricto sensu program specifically tailored to the strategic needs of the construction industry.

From its inception, the program has focused on bridging the gap between academic research and the market requirements of the Brazilian construction sector. By establishing close partnerships and consultancies with industry firms, the program identifies and addresses immediate demands, such as improving material performance and construction techniques, while prioritizing cost reduction, efficiency maximization, and sustainability.

Following the continuous involvement of this faculty group in outreach and research projects—which resulted in substantial academic output—FUMEC University moved forward with the creation of a professional graduate program. This process culminated in the recommendation and authorization by CAPES in September 2013. The Professional Master’s in Construction Processes officially commenced its academic activities in March 2014.

Since then, the program has been instrumental in training engineers to develop high-level skills and competencies within the context of construction and related fields. It also plays a vital role in the generation and dissemination of knowledge across Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Civil Production Engineering, particularly at the regional level, preparing professionals for both advanced industry practice and academic teaching.
